What is the Welfare
Fund?
Nick Pesecreta Named as Welfare Fund Manager
.......The Welfare Fund Board of Trustees appointed Nick Pesecreta as Fund Manager, effective June 1, 2008. He succeeds Ted Ackerman
, who is retiring. Nick, who currently is the FUSE Executive Vice President, has been a trustee of the Welfare Fund since 1979. The Welfare Fund provides dental, optical, hearing, benefits and life, accidental death, dismemberment and long term disability insurance for FUSE members and retirees.
In January 1979, following the formation of the New Rochelle
FUSE, the New Rochelle FUSE Welfare Fund (originally established
in 1968 by UTNR), was expanded. The Welfare Fund was created
to provide various benefits that would not otherwise be afforded
to City School District Employees.
The funds to provide those benefits are derived from the
Board of Education through the process of collective bargaining
and are strictly separated from all other union funds. The
Fund benefits that members enjoy are the result of the success
of the FUSE negotiations on behalf of its members.
Presently, the Fund provides dental, optical, hearing, life,
accidental death, dismemberment and long term disability benefits.
The day to day business of the Fund is managed by Nick Pesecreta,
the Fund Manager, under the auspices of the Board of Trustees.
The Fund retains legal, actuarial and third party claim administrative
professional services.
The Welfare Fund continues to provide important benefits
to our members through the negotiations process by the FUSE.
As the FUSE remains strong and vital, so does the Welfare
Fund.

Welfare Fund
Reminders
Waiting Period
When there is a waiting period or a time limitation for any
benefit provided by the Welfare Fund, the period is calculated
according to the regular 12 month calendar, not the school
year calendar. For example, a member buying glasses on March
15, 2000 is eligible for another pair on or after March 15,
2001. A member receiving prophylaxis on April 9, 2000 can
have that procedure again on or after October 9, 2000. Please
consult with your service provider to make sure that you have
completed any waiting periods or time limits in order to make
certain that your claim will be paid.
Life Insurance
One of the benefits available to members through the Welfare
Fund is a $50,000 life insurance policy. Members usually designate
the beneficiary (beneficiaries) shortly after they are hired.
Members may want to change their designation if they have
married, divorced or had a child since being hired. To change
your beneficiary, contact the FUSE office for a new beneficiary
card.
List of Service
Providers
Frequently
members call the FUSE office asking for a "list"
of dentists or optometrists who accept our Welfare Fund Benefits
as payment. The FUSE does not endorse or "list"
health care professionals accepting our benefits. It is suggested
that members looking for a dentist or optometrist ask their
colleagues for recommendations
Optical Benefit
Expanded
The optical benefit has been expanded to include members of
your family! Other members of an employee's family may now
use this benefit on those years when the employee does not.
For example, an employee had an eye exam and received glasses
on March 24, 2000. On March 24, 2001, his/her spouse or dependent
child may use the benefit for an eye exam or glasses. Remember,
the once a year limitation still applies. No employee or member
of his/her family may use this benefit more than once a calendar
year.
